For this recipe, I am using onions, carrots, celery and tomatoes. The best thing about this sauce is that even if you do not like veggies in your sauce, add them anyway. You and others will not even be able to tell that you are eating sauce with veggies in it. All you will know is that you are eating a rich, delicious pasta sauce, just like the ones they serve at Italian restaurants. But you will know the secret, the secret that there are veggies in the sauce!

There are different tomato sauces that you can make. For example, if you are making simple meatballs, you should also make a homemade tomato sauce to serve with them. This tomato sauce is vegetarian, because the meat will come from the meatballs.




On the other hand, the Bolognese Sauce is the only thing that you will serve on pasta (in addition to some Parmesan cheese and parsley), so the sauce itself is going to contain meat.

In this Bolognese Sauce recipe I am using ground beef. I have seen other Bolognese sauce recipes that used pork or a combination of pork and beef.

Ingredients For Bolognese Sauce Recipe

1.5 Pounds of Ground Beef
1 Medium Onion
3 Stalks of Celery
2 Carrots
28 oz can of crushed tomatoes
1/2 cup of half and half

Olive Oil
Salt
Freshly Ground Black Pepper
a pinch of Dry Oregano
1/3 cup of Water

1/2 Pound of dry pasta
Parmesan Cheese
Parsley


How To Make Bolognese Sauce

Peel and grate the carrots. Chop the onions and celery.

Heat up the oil in a large saute pan. Add the meat and cook, stirring, for 5-6 minutes. Add carrots, onions and celery. Cook, stirring for 5 more minutes. Add crushed tomatoes, dry oregano, water, and bring to boil.

Decrease the heat, so that the Bolognese Sauce is just lightly simmering and cook for 1-2 hours, until the sauce is reduced. Turn off the heat and gently stir in half n half. Season with salt and black pepper.

Make the pasta. Cook the pasta according to the instructions on the package. Drain. Put the pasta on a plate, add Bolognese Sauce, then sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and parsley.
