I get a lot of questions about what cooking tools to use in the kitchen, so I am going to start posts to share with you recommendations on the best cooking tools to use in your kitchen.

Today’s recommendation is for your kitchen knife. A kitchen knife is one of the most important tools that you can have in the kitchen. I can’t think of a recipe where you don’t need to use a knife. Maybe if you are getting a fruit out of the fridge, then washing and then eating it, you will not need a knife. Otherwise, you will need a knife in pretty much any and every recipe.

When I was just starting out with cooking, I had regular knives. I purchased a set at the grocery store for $20 or $30, and I used them for a while. After a while, I decided to upgrade my knives, to get better knives for the kitchen. I did a lot of research, and looked into both sets and individual knives.

After I researched the knife sets, I decided that I did not need to buy a whole knife set, as I only needed a few very particular knives. I also researched different knife brands, to see which brands would work for me.

After a lot of consideration, I decided that I only needed two knives, a Santoku Knife and a Chef’s Knife.

Let’s take a look at my favorite knife. It is a classic Japanese style Santoku knife, and it is great for chopping pretty much anything!

Kitchen Knives

Wusthof Santoku Knife

This cooks knife is designed for chopping, slicing, dicing. The alternating hollows on blade’s sides prevent food from clinging. I can attest to that, the hollows on the blade are really nice to preventing clinging of the veggies, herbs, meats and other ingredients during chopping.

This is the knife you will use in pretty much all the recipes, and every time you cook. If you are looking for a gift for those who like to cook, whether they are just starting out with cooking, or whether they are accomplished gourmet cooks, this knife makes a fabulous gift!
