Cumin is a great, flavorful spice, that is used in flavoring dishes in many different cuisines. I like using cumin in many different dishes, from lamb patties, to stews and chilis, to side dishes, such as a lentils side dish.

If you are trying to cook healthier, so that you can lose weight or keep your current weight, spices are great ingredients to use. Usually to add flavor to a dish, people use something with lots of fat in it, such as butter or fat. When you add spices to dishes, you are making the dishes much more flavorful. So you won’t need as much fat or butter to add flavor – you can use spices to add the flavor without adding the calories!

If you haven’t used cumin before, it is a wonderful spice to use. It adds a lot of flavor to the dish, but it is not hot, so it makes the dish flavorful, but not hot.

Here are a few simple and healthy recipes that use cumin in them:

Lamb Patties With Tzatziki Sauce

If you like gyros, here is my take on making something similar. Instead of gyro meat use lamb patties, that are very simple to make. The patties are made with lamb, onions, parsley, eggs, cumin, salt and black pepper. Fry the patties, then serve them in a pita with Tzatziki sauce, tomatoes, cucumbers and onions.

Ricotta and Spinach Recipe

Here is my take on an Indian side dish, called saag paneer. Saag means spinach and paneer is paneer cheese. Paneer is a fresh cheese, made from cow milk. So Saag Paneer is spinach with Paneer Cheese, a tasty and flavorful dish.

In this recipe I am using ricotta cheese instead of paneer cheese, but I am using a lot of different spices that are used to make the real saag paneer. Garlic, onions, ginger, scallions, cumin and coriander make this dish very flavorful.

If you are looking to cook healthier by adding more spinach to your diet, this is a great spinach dish to try.

Lamb, Chickpeas and Beef Stew Recipe

If you like beef stews, then this is another great recipe to try. In this recipe, beef stew is made even better by the addition of lamb and chickpeas. The lamb meat provide lots of flavor to the stew. And the chickpeas are a perfect bean here – hearty, flavorful, colorful.

Adding beans to a stew is a great way to eat more beans. Beans are good for you, so if you are looking to eat healthier, this is a great ingredient to use. In this dish, the beans will cook together with the meat, which will make the beans more flavorful.

Chili Recipe

Here is another great recipe that uses cumin – chili recipe. It is very simple to make chili – you will need ground beef with onions, tomato sauce, pinto beans, oregano, chili powder and cumin. Chili is a fabulous dish because of all the toppings you can add to it.

Raw white onions, scallions, cilantro, radishes, avocados, sour cream, grated cheese – all make great toppings for chili.
