How To Make Pizza Margherita

Take the pizza dough out of the fridge and let it rest for 20-25 minutes.

If making Pizza Margherita with sausage, heat up olive oil in a saute pan. Add sausage and cook for a few minutes. Add oregano and cook the sausage until done. Cool the sausage.

Cut tomatoes into round pieces, and put them on a paper towel to get some of the moisture out. Cut mozzarella balls into round pieces. Chop the basil, or just rip the bigger leaves into a few smaller pieces.

Spread some cornmeal on a cookie sheet. Pre-heat the oven to 375F.

Put a bit of flour on a large cutting board. Use a rolling pit or your fingers to make a pizza out of the dough. Use a fork to prick the pizza. Put the pizza on the cookie sheet, brush with a bit of olive oil and bake in the oven for about 5 minutes.

Get the dough out of the oven, cool it for a bit, add mozzarella, tomatoes, about 3/4 of the basil and sausage, if using sausage. Return the pizza back to the oven and cook for 15-20 minutes, until it is done.

Once it is done, let it cool, and then top with the remaining basil.

Serve pizza Margherita with a simple salad.

  1. Oh, YUM! Pizza Margherita is my all-time favorite! I always thought it was more tasty than the over loaded pepperoni pizza. A much more gentle flavor. Thanks for posting!
