Ham and Cheese Sandwich
If it cold outside and you are craving a warm sandwich to go with your soup, here is a very simple one that you can make in 10 minutes. All you need is a few bread slices, ham, cheese, butter and a grill and you are in business!
I recommend using a cheese that melts well (i like to use cheddar), but seriously, a ham and cheese sandwich is going to be great with almost any kind of cheese. And to make it look golden brown and delicious outside you have to butter the sandwich outside. This way when you grill it, it will look golden brown and delicious.
Another tip that I have for making a great ham and cheese sandwich is to cook ham first, before putting it inside the sandwich. If you just put the ham in a sandwich without pre-cooking it first, it will not have enough time to get warm, and you will end up with a ham sandwich that is barely warm inside. Not a good idea.
Here are a few salads that will go great with the Ham and Cheese Sandwich: Potato salad, Black bean and corn salad, Tomato, dill and cucumber salad.

How To Make Ham and Cheese Sandwich
Pre-heat your grill.
Grill the ham a few minutes on each side first.
Butter the bread.
Create your sandwich: Put one slice of bread on the grill, buttered side down. Put ham on top of the bread. Put cheese on top of the ham.
Now, this is important: Put the second slice of bread on top of cheese, buttered side up. Close the grill and grill for 3-5 minutes, until the sandwich turns the golden brown color. Serve the ham and cheese sandwich on a plate.

I like to pull the deli ham out an hour before making the sandwich. It is frequently also wet so I blot it with paper towels then let it sit until I am ready to cook.
While I like standard sliced processed, white cheddar or cheddar - my favorite is prrovolone or moz.
I love ham & cheese with potato soup or tomato soup
