French Toast Recipe

So there are two schools of though on how to make French toast. One school of thought is all about frying the toast (and this is what today’s recipe is all about). The other one is all about soaking and baking the toast. I have tried the soaking and baking route a few times, and have not been impressed. It was kind of soggy and bready, not the light, crunchy and at the same time soft kind that I get every time when I fry it.

So what about you - do you bake your French toast of fry it?

A lot of people ask which bread to use. I have tried it with lots of different breads, and actually prefer it with simple white sandwich bread.

We love French toast at our house. The boys have been making it themselves for a couple of years. I one thing, switch that I started making before they started making it, was to use wheat or whole wheat bread in an attempt to make it a healthier breakfast.

The picture is delectable! Mmmmmmm…thank you for sharing this recipe with us.

I fry mine. Love the crispy crunch. I have it with scrambled eggs made out of the leftover egg solution. I have never put in vanilla, will have to try that.

E’Anne, great idea on using wheat toast to make it healthier. I think wheat bread would be even better in savory French toast. I will have to post the recipe for that sometime.

    Glad you enjoyed the picture!

Linda Marie, yes, leftover eggs are great for scrambled eggs. Let me know if you try French toast with vanilla.

We do the Italian version in my house. Eggs, milk and leftover Italian bread. Fried in oil. Served with salt. (I do sneak a little butter and syrup on mine. LOL)

I fry mine but add cinnamon to the egg mixture. I use what ever bread is available but day old french bread or white bread is great.
